1. MRC dyspnoea scale Patients grade themselves on a scale of 0–5 according to the activity that induces breathlessness. 2. Oxygen cost diagram This diagram lists activities along a 10cm line and the patient marks a line at the point above which they would become breathless. The score is the distance along the line. 3. Borg scale This scale is used to measure short-term changes in the intensity of breathlessness during a particular task. For correct usage of the scale the exact design and instructions given by Borg must be followed.
